Skin Corrections Like Acne, Wrinkles, Hyperpigmentation and Textured Skin & What to do About Them
You've heard of phrases like "corrective skincare" but what does that really mean? Corrective skincare is known as products with active ingredients that target certain skin concerns and conditions for enhanced benefits and ultimate results. And guess what? The most corrective skincare products that bring the BEST results are not the basic, go-to skincare products such as cleansers and moisturizers. Here's why...
If you want to work on actual CHANGE in the skin, the most effective skincare products to use for correction are serums and face masques. That's because serum(s) especially have the highest levels of concentrated & active ingredients over ALL other skincare products on the market. Another added benefit of serum is it usually has a smaller molecular model which means it can penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin helping it work even better than other skincare products like cleanser and moisturizer that only work on the outermost layers or surface of the skin.
While the skincare tier may seem overwhelming to some, when you break it down it's rather simple to understand.
Cleanser - It's job is to remove impurities and clean the skin.
Exfoliant - Removes dead skin cells & build-up.
Tonique or Hydrating Mist - Their job is to balance Ph levels in the skin and lightly hydrate for enhanced benefits of other products such as serum and moisturizer.
Essence - A primer that helps all other leave-on treatments work better.
Masque - Used intermittently to give your skin a boost by locking in beneficial ingredients allowing the skin to absorb them more efficiently.
Serum - Lightweight fluid composed of actives, botanicals and antioxidants to correct specific skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, etc.
Concentrate - A cross between a serum and moisturizer, this fluid delivers more hydration while also offering the benefits of a serum.
Targeted Treatments - Used to treat smaller and more specific areas of the face such as the delicate under-eye (Eye Cream) or blemishes (Spot Treatment).
Moisturizer - An emollient rich cream aimed to protect & seal in hydration on the outer layers of the skin.
Face Oil - Provides an extra layer of hydration and/or helps balance oil production in the skin.
Now that we have the skincare tier understood, it's simple to see what each product's actual job is. They all have their place, and when applied to the skin in a correct and consistent order they are able to give the most benefits for you and your skin.
If you have the basics of skincare mastered such as daily facial cleansing and applying moisturizer and you're ready to start working on skin corrections like dark spots or fine lines & wrinkles, you're ready for the next skincare step. You can step-up your skincare game by adding a daily serum and weekly face masque to your skincare routine to help prevent & correct skin conditions & concerns.
