Why All Skin Needs Moisturizer and How to Choose the Best Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

Why All Skin Needs Moisturizer and How to Choose the Best Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

Yep, you read that right...ALL skin types need a moisturizer, even oily & acne prone skin. Here's why ⤵️

Generally, everyone needs a water-oil combination that is fundamental to all moisturizers. Ingredients in moisturizers that contain and absorb water, called humectants, work together with oil (also known as occlusives) to lock water into your skin.

Moisturizers contain HUMECTANTS like botanical hyaluronic acid, lactic acid and honey that pull water from the air as well as from deep inside the layers of your skin to deliver it to your thirsty skin cells. Moisturizers also contain OCCLUSIVES like jojoba oil, sunflower oil and shea butter that help lock water into your skin and stop or slow down water from evaporating into the air.

Now that we're clear on the technical WHY you need a moisturizer, let's break down which particular moisturizer is best for your skin type, needs and goals.

Oily Skin

If you don’t moisturize at all, your sebaceous glands will make up for the lack of moisture by producing more of what you don’t like: extra sebum, the oily, waxy substance that lubricates the skin.

Mangosteen Gel Moisturizer: A dewy gel that melts into the skin, minimizes the appearance of pores and leaves a smooth, matte finish. An Allure Best in Beauty 2021 Award Winner 🏆

Clear Skin Probiotic Moisturizer: Helps clear the appearance of blemishes and problem skin & leaves a smooth, powder-like finish.

Red Currant Protective Moisturizer SPF 40: A mattifying daily moisturizer complete with Youth Shield Antioxidant Complex and SPF 40 all mineral protection to help prevent the signs of aging and sunburn. Great for normal to oily/combination/breakout prone skin.

Normal Skin

Normal skin isn't dry, reactive or oily and does not have any consistent skin conditions such as breakouts. It's important to maintain your healthy skin balance and prevent accelerated aging.

Stone Crop Whip Moisturizer: Formulated with a BioComplex, a booster of antioxidants, Coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve the appearance of the skin, as well as hydrating stone crop.

Firm Skin Moisturizer: Targeted formulas Homeostatine® and Biocomplex boost the appearance of elasticity for younger-looking skin.

Marine Flower Peptide Night Cream: Smooth, hydrate and tone while you sleep.

Bright Skin Moisturizer SPF 40: A brightening daily moisturizer complete with Natural Hydroquinone Alternative and SPF 40 all mineral protection to target the appearance of dark spots and help prevent sunburn. For normal to combination skin types.

Dry Skin

Dry skin needs a moisturizer with a rich oil content and ingredients that help improve barrier function such as echinacea and primrose oil.

Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer: Suitable for dry skin as it contains shea butter and coconut oil, two ingredients that work to replenish the appearance of the skin.

Monoi Age Corrective Night Cream for Face & Neck: Enriched with the tropical monoi flower, this deeply hydrating cream improves the appearance of skin elasticity and reduces the look of wrinkles.

Tropical Vanilla Day Cream SPF 40: A tropical day cream formulated with vanilla, shea butter and SPF 40 all mineral protection to revitalize skin and help prevent sunburn. Suitable for all skin types.

Sensitive Skin

If your skin easily reddens and chaps and frequently prickles or tightens when exposed to the wrong products, you have sensitive skin. You were born with it, but pollution, alcohol and stress don’t help and can often make it worse.

Calm Skin Chamomile Moisturizer: Contains both chamomile and arnica for balancing the appearance of the skin. It’s also rich in shea butter and calendula oil which have high fatty acid content that acts as an occlusive — preventing water loss without exacerbating your skin.

Tropical Vanilla Day Cream SPF 40: A tropical day cream formulated with vanilla, shea butter and SPF 40 all mineral protection to revitalize skin and help prevent sunburn. Suitable for all skin types.

Combination Skin

If your skin is the type that can’t make up its mind, your complexion is probably a combination skin type. Characterized by skin that is oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin and sometimes the tops of the cheeks) and normal or dry elsewhere, combination skin can be a struggle when it comes to choosing the right product.

Eight Greens Whip Moisturizer: Infused with plant ingredients like yucca extract and stone crop, this moisturizer keeps the skin hydrated all over, even if you’re dealing with varying moisture levels.

Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40: An all-in-one lightweight daily moisturizer formulated with cocoa seed extract, satsuma mandarin peel and SPF 40 all mineral protection to improve the appearance of skin exposed to blue light stress and pollution. Suitable for all skin types.

Bright Skin Moisturizer SPF 40: A brightening daily moisturizer complete with Natural Hydroquinone Alternative and SPF 40 all mineral protection to target the appearance of dark spots and help prevent sunburn. For normal to combination skin types.

Think of moisturizer as sealing the deal by locking in hydration after applying all the important nutrients and ingredients in your skincare routine.
