Your First Brazilian: What to Expect and How to Prep

Your First Brazilian: What to Expect and How to Prep

Booking your first Brazilian can feel like a big step, and if you're a little nervous, you're in good company. Almost every client who walks through my door for the first time feels the same way. The good news? It's quicker, easier and far more comfortable than most people expect, especially when you know what's coming. Here's everything you need to know, from prep to aftercare.

Waxing or sugaring?

At Sweet Cheeks, we offer both Brazilian waxing and sugared Brazilians. Both remove hair from the root for smooth results that last weeks, not days. Not sure which is right for you? Read my guide to waxing vs. sugaring, or just ask at your appointment.

How to prep

  • Let it grow. Hair should be about ¼ inch long, roughly the size of a grain of rice. If you've been shaving, give it about 2 to 3 weeks. Too long? No problem, we'll trim it for you.
  • Exfoliate gently a day or two before. A light exfoliation helps hair release more easily. Skip it on the day of your appointment.
  • Skip the sun and tanning for 24 to 48 hours beforehand. Sun-sensitive skin is more reactive.
  • Go easy on caffeine and alcohol the day of. Both can make skin more sensitive.
  • Check your skincare and medications. Let me know if you use retinoids or prescription acne treatments, or have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months. These can make skin too fragile for waxing.
  • Shower and wear comfy clothes. Loose cotton underwear and soft pants are perfect for afterward.

On your period? You can absolutely still come in. Just wear a tampon or menstrual cup. Skin can feel a bit more sensitive around your cycle, so some clients prefer to book the week after.

What to expect during your appointment

  1. A quick, judgment-free chat. We'll talk about what you'd like: everything off, a little left on top, or a shape. It's your body and your choice.
  2. Getting comfortable. You'll undress from the waist down in privacy and relax on a clean, freshly prepared treatment bed.
  3. Prep and cleanse. I'll cleanse the area and prep your skin to protect it.
  4. Hair removal, section by section. I work quickly and carefully, holding your skin taut to keep things as comfortable as possible. Deep breaths help!
  5. Soothe and finish. We finish with a calming, protective product, and you're on your way.

A first Brazilian usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. After a few regular visits, appointments get quicker and more comfortable as hair grows back finer.

Does it hurt?

Honestly, a little, but much less than most people imagine, and it's over fast. Your first visit is usually the most sensitive. With regular appointments, hair grows back finer and sparser, and many clients say it barely bothers them. Breathing slowly, staying relaxed and booking outside your period all help.

Aftercare: the first 48 hours

Freshly waxed or sugared skin has open follicles, so give it a little TLC:

  • Skip hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths.
  • Hold off on intense workouts and heavy sweating.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning.
  • Wait on intimacy for at least 24 hours.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing.
  • Keep your hands off. Clean hands only, and no picking.

A little redness or a few small bumps right afterward is completely normal and usually settles within a day or two.

Preventing ingrown hairs

This is the secret to beautiful results between visits:

  • Start exfoliating 2 to 3 days after your appointment, then continue 2 to 3 times a week to help hairs grow out freely.
  • Use a targeted treatment to keep skin smooth and soothe the bikini area. Shop my favorites in Ingrown Fighters and Fur intimate skincare.
  • Moisturize. Soft, hydrated skin lets hair grow through more easily.
  • Avoid shaving between appointments. It resets your progress and can cause more ingrowns.

How often should I come in?

Every 4 to 6 weeks is the sweet spot. Staying on schedule keeps your hair in the right growth stage, so each visit is smoother, quicker and more comfortable, and over time many clients notice less regrowth.

You're in good hands

Intimate waxing is what we do best. Every appointment is private, professional and judgment-free, and our only goal is for you to leave feeling confident and cared for. Have a question before booking? Just ask. No question is too awkward. We've truly heard them all.
